The Center for Family Health has always placed a high priority on solid financial controls and accounting practices, acknowledging that our mission cannot be served if we are not on solid ground.

Brad Weeks, Vice President of Comerica Bank, has been on the Center for Family Health's finance committee for more than eighteen months. Brad became aware of CFH through Comerica and was impressed with our mission to open the door to health care for all.

Several issues increased Brad's interest in what CFH was doing and he felt it was important for him to become involved. "I saw statistics about how many teens in our community don't receive dental care and it really surprised me," explains Brad. He is pleased that the Teen Health Center at Parkside and the Northeast Health Center are making a difference. But dental care is just one issue.

"The future of how we provide medical care continues to change and I find it very interesting." "The average person doesn't understand what Medicaid pays for, what it covers and what it doesn't. The community doesn't realize how dependent we are on Medicaid reimbursements to provide health care to those in need."

Both he and Dale Ernst, our Finance Director, agreed it would benefit CFH to have a banker on our finance committee. Brad has been impressed with Dale and our financial controls and processes. Our recent audit received compliments from the auditors which is encouraging.

Brad indicates that his personal goal on the finance committee is to move toward the organization operating at a profit and ensuring CFH remains on sound financial footing. "We are moving in that direction," says Brad. "We have the plan in place."

As Brad looks ahead to our long range goals, he recognizes our physical location and building facilities are a barrier to being able to serve more people. "Our existing physical challenges will continue to be challenges." "I'm very impressed with the people at CFH," shares Brad. "Their sense of mission is very strong."

Brad received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in Economics and his Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He is also the Past President of the Cascades Humane Society Board of Directors. He has been married to Debbie for 35 years and they have two children. Their son Douglass is finishing his 5th year teaching English in Japan. Their daughter Elena recently graduated from George Mason in Virginia and has started a Physicians Assistant program at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.
