CFH to co-sponsor two Back-to-School Bashes in Jackson with giveaways, services and activities for kids

JACKSON, MI -- Backpacks with school supplies will be given to children in Jackson as part of the fun at Back-to-School Bashes on Aug. 20 and Aug. 21.

Back-to-School events are scheduled noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 1107 Adrian Street, and 4-6 p.m. Aug. 21 at First United Methodist Church, 275 W. Michigan Avenue.

Backpacks with school supplies will be given out at the Aug. 20 event only, which will also include games and activities. Haircuts, medical checkups, and other services will be provided at the Aug. 21 event.

All children and their parents are invited to both Back-to-School events, which are cosponsored by the Center for Family Health as part of its community outreach for National Health Center Week.

Other activities marking National Health Center Week include a Popcorn Friday for patients and board members on Aug. 18 and a tour for elected officials Aug. 16.

As a federally qualified health center, the Center for Family Health delivers high-quality, affordable health care to all in the Jackson and Hillsdale communities. The Center is overseen by a community-focused board, and more than half the board members are CFH patients.

Terry Langston, Communications and Development Officer for the Center for Family Health, said National Health Center Week is a great time to emphasize the valuable role health centers play in building strong communities.

“The Center for Family Health was created by and for the Jackson community in 1991, long before Obamacare,” said Langston. “No matter how health care is funded in the future, community health centers must be part of the solution for making care accessible and affordable.”
