Ami Ward - Dental Hygienist
Ami Ward worked as a hygienist in private-practice dental offices in the Jackson area for 22 years, long enough to see a clear need in her community.
“In private practice, we saw a lot of retired people who could no longer afford dental care,” said Ami, now a dental hygienist for the Center for Family Health. “When they retired, they lost their dental insurance.”
The Center for Family Health took a major step toward addressing that need three years ago, when it built its new Dental Clinic. Ami joined CFH at that time and has helped the Center extend affordable dental care to all adults.
“Ami is an excellent example of someone who embodies the Center for Family Health’s mission by going the extra mile for all of our patients and her coworkers,” said Erin Tomb, Dental Clinic and Front Office Manager.
“Ami is always willing to help in any way she can, and her positivity and professionalism are unwavering.”
Ami was raised in the Jackson area and graduated from Northwest High School. Her own dentist suggested a career in the dentistry field when Ami was a teenager, and she decided to pursue that path when she became a student at the University of Michigan. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in dental hygiene.
Three years ago, Ami took a job at the Center for Family Health during its expansion into the Dental Clinic building. She wanted a full-time job, which are not easy to find for dental hygienists working in private dental practices, and she liked the mission of opening new doors to care.
“I work with a lot of great people at the Center for Family Health,” Ami said. “We all work toward the same goal, to serve the community.”
Ami is married and the mother of three children between the ages of 11 and 20. She enjoys reading, beaches, and spending time with her family.
One of the best parts of her job, Ami said, is meeting the patients.
“We still get tons of new patients,” she said. “We have a lot of patients who are so appreciative of having the service. You meet some very nice people.”
